Singer Akothee arrived in dusty Lodwar town in drought-ravaged Turkana county to distribute relief food to thousands of the affected families on Saturday, March 23.
Trucks that came in from Kitale county while loaded with maize, cooking fat and other foodstuffs awakened the sleepy town as hunger victims hoped for a share in the extremely hot afternoon.
She later held consultative meetings with Turkana top government officials led by the area County Commissioner Wambua Muthama in his office.
Wambua reiterated no hunger related death has been recorded in the region even though he warned Turkana central was at the alert stage of drought.
Soon, photos of the Oyoyo hitmaker hit social media with every internet user seemingly wowed by the musician's initiative to curb famine.
Despite her controversial lifestyle and behavior, the mother of five kick started the online funds drive through her social media platforms on Monday, March 18.
"We can't ignore the fact that we always have needy families around us, even in your village , especially the elderly, women and children, so we can't just pass them like that," she said.
